Comfort Zones - Breaking Barriers!!!

Updated: Apr 27

Hi! I'm Kathryn. I am the face behind Kites & Angels Life Coaching, and I am hugely passionate about supporting mothers to re-connect with their own dreams and goals outside of motherhood.

As my gift to you in this first ever post, subscribe here to get an awesome Self-Care Freebie!

What can you expect from me in terms of blog posts?

A lot of the work that I do with my clients has its roots in:

  • Building confidence & self-esteem

  • Learning to incorporate self-care into busy lives

  • Setting goals, and planning the steps to reach them (I provide both accountability and support to my clients)

  • Challenging limiting beliefs & getting out of your comfort zone

So, you will find lots of content based around these topics, and many others that interlink with them - such as perfectionism, anxiety, people-pleasing.

I'm sure that many of you mums out there can recognise yourself in some of these!!! I know I sure can!

So… welcome to my very first - blog post!!! EVER!!!

I've always been reasonable at writing, and it's something I enjoy, so why have I got to the grand old age of 45 and never written a blog???

FEAR - Plain and simple. It's scary putting yourself out there - especially on the internet. Thoughts would go through my mind:

  • What if no one is interested in what I have to say?

  • Who am I to be giving my take on things?

  • What if I get trolled?

Over the last year or so I have been working on silencing that negative little voice in my head - You know the one!!! It tells us we aren't slim enough; clever enough; popular enough!

It was this little voice that kept me safe.

It also kept me from trying new things and exploring and enjoying life to the full.

As Robert Tew said:

"Don't let negative and toxic people rent space in your head. raise the rent and kick them out!"

The same is true for our own negative and limiting self-talk. We are so much more than we give ourselves credit for. And that's where breaking out of those comfort zones comes in!

While I was studying to get my Life Coaching Diploma, I essentially became my very first client.

I started to challenge the little gremlin in my head (let's call him Boris!) and actually stop and think about what I had already been through, and also achieved in life:

  • I had raised 3 amazing, caring and intelligent boys (the youngest is nearly 17 now)

  • I had completed an Honours degree in Education

  • I had been primarily both the driving force and the facilitator of moving our entire family (with 3 under-4s) from the UK to NZ, never having set foot in the Southern Hemisphere before

  • I had been through the death of a parent and other close family members; marriage; divorce; being the victim of bullying (both in my teens and as an adult!)

  • I had failed in a business venture

And I was still here, thriving and living life with a partner (now my hubby), 3 boys, 2 dogs and 2 cats!!!

Heck!!! I've done a lot!!!

Now I can also add to the list that I:

  • Love my part time job (I am a nanny/carer for a toddler with CP and I love my time with him)

  • Completed a Diploma in Life Coaching

  • Started a business which I feel fully aligned with

  • Am currently studying Root Cause Therapy to add an extra, very powerful modality to my business

Every day, I am working towards pushing my boundaries, and getting outside my comfort zone - keep your eyes peeled for when I do my first Reel on Instagram and a short video on YouTube!!!

Now that is where I will really be testing myself! Anyone who knows me personally will know how much I hate being on camera, but I will do it, because I will not continue to let FEAR hold me back from having the business I want, and from connecting with the people I am so passionate about supporting.

I’m going to finish here (and go and watch the latest episode of MAFS - yes, I know - guilty pleasure lol!!!)

I wanted to use this first blog to introduce myself to you, but also to address the issue of pushing our own boundaries and stepping outside of our comfort zone - because that’s where the MAGIC really happens!!!

If you enjoyed this first blog, please comment and let me know.
